It was identified during some previous studies a situation of pluviometric persistence (repetition of the strong pluviometry at the same places during rainy events) during the 1992 rainy season at the square degree of Niamey.
The objective of this study is to check this assumption of pluviometric persistence on a broader field by studying the rainfall records on the area from 1990 to 2007 using a very dense network of recording rain-gauges.
Although the pluviometric cases of persistence identified during preceding studies are found, the present study reveals some nuances. Indeed, in the case of pluviometric persistence between two close stations (one surplus and the other overdrawn one and outdistance from 7 to 25 km) and during the same season, on the 248 cases analyzed only 55 cases i.e. 22% present sequences of persistence.
The study of pluviometric persistence between rainy events under the favorable conditions of persistence (rainy events separated by a certain duration of sunning), shows that on the 76 cases identified only 14 cases (18%) present a behavior of persistence even if this persistence does not relate in general to the whole area.
This analysis base on the rainfall records does not make possible to explain the missing of pluviometric persistence between rainy events filling the criteria of pluviometric persistence. Altogether, this analysis shows the need for including in the next studies of the pluviometric persistence of other climatic parameters.
